Edmonton Chapter: Scattered Spider Changed the Game - Now its time for CIOs to implement a bug catcher
November 18, 2025 (4:30 PM - 7:00 PM) (MST)
Description
The hacker group Scattered Spider has changed the game by bypassing traditional defenses and targeting corporate help desks as their entry point. Using phone-based social engineering, they impersonated employees to reset credentials and gain privileged access, a tactic that blindsided many enterprises.
As CIOs you have the ability to turn the help desk from a liability into a resilience asset, using mostly tools you already own.
For CIOs, this means reducing risk exposure, strengthening compliance posture, and safeguarding both customers and employees.
In this session we will discuss:
• Leveraging technology business rules to enforce caller verification
• Alerting on attempted impersonation attacks to the help desk
• Protecting against video call and voice impersonation
